Christmas is Upon Us

I love Christmas. It truly is the best time of the year. There’s good food, music, presents, and decorations. Our electorate has been in full Christmas swing (even in November) and over the past month I’ve celebrated with you at the St Helier’s School Christmas Fair, the St Helier’s Christmas Markets, local property management company Harbinson’s Christmas Party and the Stonefield Family Market Day where I bumped not only into Santa but new Sergeant Dan, who’s based at the Glen Innes Station.

St Pius X Catholic School in Glen Innes also hosted their first School Fair and it was awesome to head along. The sun was out, so were happy families and I could tell how respected Principal Andrew (pictured below) is by the local community that showed up to support. Let’s hope they’re back bigger and better again next year! I’m loving the community spirit I’m seeing at the moment.

I had a great opportunity to pop into Woolworths St Johns to meet the hardworking team and hear about new renovations to the store and their partnership with food rescue organisations, so food goes to use and doesn’t go to waste.

One of the organisations that benefits from efforts to rescue food in our community is Everybody Eats in Glen Innes. I popped in this month with our electorate team to better understand their operation. Essentially, they provide a nutritious dinner free of charge to everyone who walks in, while those who can pay are encouraged to give what they can. Consider checking it out.

As much as I love Christmas, I also know it’s a mad dash over these coming days and time is precious, so I’ll let you in on just one more thing:

This Friday 13 December, 1:30pm I’m hosting Women’s Refuge at the Kohimarama Yacht Club. Please come along to hear about the work they do to support women in the community leave domestic violence. It is important work. Those who attend are welcome to bring a small Christmas gift for a woman needing Women’s Refuge’s help this Christmas.

Christmas Community Meeting

Please RSVP here to help us provide sufficient Christmas cake and cookies.

It’s a pleasure serving you as your local MP.

See you out in the community!
