Signing Off

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

I know that for many Kiwis Christmas came early with a change of Government, but I also hope you have a wonderful summer spending time with your nearest and dearest.

While I sign off now for 2023 to spend some time with family away from Parliament and politics, I’ll be back in the new year ready to continue delivering the change you voted for in Tamaki and New Zealand.

Since Parliament resumed three weeks ago, I’ve delivered for Kiwi businesses and workers by repealing the so-called Fair Pay Agreements and reinstated 90-day trials for all employers and employees. My quick work while being a target of the unions earned a shoutout from Newshub as the “best transition” of any politician entering Government.

We're a Government that wants higher wages but we don't agree with blunt tools to deliver them. A greater focus on a flexible labour market with more productivity and less unnecessary regulation is better for businesses and employees

As well as being in Parliament, I’ve continued to be in the community. Our first Tamaki community event hosting Auckland City Mission CEO Helen Robinson was a huge success. I can’t wait to hold further community events next year bringing interesting people and ideas to Tamaki.

I spent some time in Glen Innes at the Glen Innes School’s Community Gathering and BBQ. The sun was out and so was the community and Christmas spirit.

Thank you for the privilege of representing you. It has been a huge honour being elected as your local MP in Tamaki and being appointed a Cabinet Minister in this new Government. I feel privileged to wake up each day to advocate for our community and to make positive change.

Once again, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. See you in 2024.

Simon
