A Whirlwind Month
What a fabulous end to a whirlwind of a month. Today, David Seymour and I hosted our annual Pink Ribbon Breakfast in Ōrākei to support the Breast Cancer Foundation and all the women and men who battle breast cancer, and to remember those we have lost to cancer. Thank you so much to everyone who came along for your donation which will help those in need and fund research. It means a lot. We were joined by Breast Cancer Foundation Ambassador Jude Dobson, CEO Ah-Leen Rayner, and Dr Lauren Brown, a leading medical oncologist and researcher who gave an insightful presentation. |

Every so often you meet someone younger and think “you know what, we’re in good hands”. I know I’m still too young for many readers to think this could be happening to me, but it’s the truth! I had the pleasure of meeting local constituent Frank Ison, who graduated from Glendowie College last year. He’d received the Top Scholar Award for Classics and an Outstanding Scholar Award and shows great maturity and humility after being named one of the top students across New Zealand. We wish him great success for the future. Well done also to Principal Gordon Robertson for fostering an environment for students to thrive. |

Last Sunday, I met dozens of impressive community minded young adults at the Youth of Ōrākei AGM and brought my Youth MP to meet them. The Youth of Ōrākei are the youth council funded by the Ōrākei Local Board. It’s wonderful to see so many young adults caring for their community. We heard about the projects they have planned, including tree planting, photography competitions, skills for uni workshops, and other events to build and engage youth in our area. |

This month I’ve also been in Glen Innes spending time with Reverend Joel at St Mary’s Church and hearing about programmes they’re involved with including the organisation of kids sports teams, in St Heliers hearing more about the team at Four Square, in Glendowie learning about the concerning asbestos-containing materials washing up on our beaches, and seeing many of you at the Home and Garden Show! Thank you to everyone who has passed on your support over these past few weeks when I’ve been out walking around, it has been heartwarming. |

In a few weeks, I’m hosting a community meeting about Crime and Safety bringing the Minister for Police and Minister for Children to Tāmaki to discuss the issues we’re seeing and hear from our community. In attendance will also be the Police, Auckland Transport, Council and Local Boards. Please join us for this information evening. All members of our community should be safe and supported. Meeting to be held Friday 13 June, 7pm at Sacred Heart College. |
Thanks for your ongoing support and see you in the community!
