Join me for a talk with Sir John Kirwan MBE OBE KNZM, Founder and Chairman of Mitey. Mitey is an approach which ensures schools have the resources and support to teach their students to safeguard and nurture their own mental health.
The Sir John Kirwan Foundation was established with a goal to address New Zealand’s worrying youth suicide statistics. Having been at the forefront of mental health advocacy and drawing on his own lived experience with mental health challenges, Sir John, alongside passionate supporters, established the Mitey programme. Mitey is an innovative, school-wide approach co-designed with teachers and the University of Auckland’s Faculty of Education and Social Work. Its focus is on primary prevention - engaging children in their early school years and equipping them with the language, understanding, and skills they need for lifelong mental wellbeing.
